Mr. Field

Bohan Prentice Field was Belfast’s first lawyer and opened his office in 1801. In 1804, he purchased from his future brother-in-law, William Crosby, 5/8 of an acre of land “on a knoll on the east side of High Street near Thomas Whittier Jr.’s house.”  The price was $260.00.

The house was ready for occupancy in 1807, when Field brought his new bride Abigail Davis to Belfast. Nine children were born to them; eight sons and one daughter. In 1832, Bohan left his lawyer position to become a full time farmer. That same year, Abigail transformed the home into a boarding house until she passed away in 1863.
